Typography I @ YCP

My summer has started off quite boring. But while looking through a random magazine in the house, I noted some ads that I thought worthy enough to share.

WIRED - quick glance I didn’t get what the logo was saying, and at first because I didn’t get it, I didn’t like it. Then i decided I wanted to figure out what it was saying, and why it looked the way it does. The E and D make up the prongs, and end of a plug for an outlet. i just don’t know how I like the little squiggle at the end that makes up the wire. Looking at the part where the wire and the cord connect, it’s rounded, uneven, not smooth. They could’ve done a better job on that section. I also feel the font chosen has an Arizona/Western/Indian feel. I don’t know if I get that because of the angles in the font, or because of that white shape as the middle bar in the E.

GG - I’ve seen it done before, many of times. I just don’t know how I like it here.

CONSIGNMENT - They did not match the letters up at all…definitely needs fixing.

SHELFGENIE - I like how they made the i into a genie bottle

SOLANCO FENCE LLC - I like the decorative emblem the title is in. It works with it being a fence company.

EASTERN AIR - The arrows before the E, I get because of air flow. However, the arrows don’t align with the bars of the E. I would like to see what it would look like with the arrows aligned with the bars, or just making the arrows become the bars of the E, or just having the arrows represent an E, without a steam.
